Champagne Tribaut-Schloesser – Cuvée René

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(approx. 30 Euros per bottle)

Founded in 1929, the Champagne House of Tribaut-Schloesser, located in Romery with 50 hectares of vineyard, divided over the terroir of Romery, Cormoyeux and Fleury-la-Rivière, consisting of 30% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir, producing and selling Champagne of superb quality, following the traditional method.

Pure and luxurious looking.

Appearance :

·        Pale gold

·        Good effervescence

·        Fine perlage

·        Limpid

Nose :

·        Complex and sensual, giving instant and intense pleasure

·        Opening with apple, pear, peach and candied citrus fruit, signature of the 70% Chardonnay obtained from the vineyard plot “Les Crayères", in the beautiful terroir of Romery

·        Wonderful nuances of butter, brioche and pastries, delicately toasted, the result of lengthy ageing sur lattes of the bottles (5 years), before ridding and disgorgement

·        Aromas of caramel, vanilla, honey and beeswax, expression of a particular and subtle woody note, obtained by ageing the base wines in century old barrels for one to two years

·        The nose then reveals aromas of red fruits and kirsch, thanks to the 30% Pinot Noir selected from the village of Ecueil

Palate :

·        Gentle attack, almost pulpy, of almond and hazelnut, instantly capturing a striking minerality, thanks to the carefully selected first run wine of the pressing (Cuvée), livelier and purer

·        The palate develops true presence, dense, smooth, almost sweet, the result of a carefully timed malolactic fermentation, enhanced by a creamy effervescence

·        Alluring notes of caramel and strawberry jam

·        Deliciously acidulous and spicy finish

·        Good length on the palate

This Cuvée René by the Champagne House of Tribaut-Schloesser is outstanding, produced by Sébastien Tribaut, following the pure tradition of champenois blending, with base wines obtained over 3 years (50% wine from 2006 and 50% reserve wine from 2004 and 2005).

Drink as an aperitif, with foie gras on toast with fig jam, or why not during a meal with pheasant cooked in Champagne.
