Champagne Henri Giraud - Argonne 2002

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(around 215 Euros per bottle)
Mythical Champagne

Winegrowers of Aÿ, then Champagne House from 1990, the Champagne House of Henri Giraud driven by its charismatic Chairman and Director Claude Giraud, 12th generation of the Giraud-Hémart family, produces very classy cuvée, thanks to the vineyards planted in the prestigious terroir of Aÿ.

Incomparable bottle engraved and numbered. Capped with a traditional clip.

Appearance :

·       Dense, radiant, almost amber

·       Fine perlage

·       Fine and persistent bead

·       Opulent tears

·       Brilliant

Nose :

·       Staggering intensity and rare complexity, exquisite, generous and structured, an expression of a particular world, rich and moving

·       Alluring aromas of honey, beeswax, spiced bread and nougat, developing towards delicate scents of apricot and raisin, together with white flowers, thanks to the 25% Chardonnay

·       Sweet notes of liquorice, roasted coffee, caramel and cocoa, an expression of the fabulous maturity of this Cuvée obtained with yeast autolysis of the second alcoholic fermentation, during patient ageing sur lattes of the bottles (10 years) before disgorgement

·       The nose then reveals sensual woody notes, delicately vanilla, the result of vinification and ageing the base wines in new 228L medium toasted oak barrels (using carefully selected wood from the Argone forest), for 12 months, on yeasts, with regular bâtonnage

Palate :

·       Round, pulpy and intense, almost structured but with silky texture, an expression of the 75% Pinot Noir

·       Intense, unexpected minerality

·       Wonderful complexity, with notes of ripe apples, spices (vanilla, pepper, ...), walnut and hazelnut together with delicious underwood nuances

·       Endless length on the palate

With this Cuvée Argonne 2002, Claude Giraud signs his name to an unforgettable personal interpretation of this quality 2002 vintage and the noble terroir of Aÿ classified Grand Cru where the grapes are obtained. Presenting superb Champagne that delivers rare emotions.

A delicious aperitif with slivers of Parmesan cheese, or during gourmet meals, with Peking duck with pear and apricot, or pan-fried Asian beef fillet.
