Champagne De Castelnau – Brut Rosé

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(around 24 Euros per bottle)

Located in Reims on a production site of 5 hectares, with a storage capacity of over 29 million bottles, the Coopérative Régionale Vins del Champagne (CRVC) from 2003 has continued the knowhow of the prestigious De Castelnau brand, having recourse to 900 hectares of vineyards, scattered across 144 Cru.

A traditional and austere look.

Appearance :

·        Coppery, bright, obtained by skilfully blending 10% Pinot red wine and 90% white wine according to the traditional method for Champagne rosé

·        Delicate bead

·        Fine perlage

Nose :

·        Alluring and complex

·        Wonderful aromatic spectrum of fresh red fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry, cherry, strawberry) and very ripe plum, an expression of the clearly predominant 51% Pinot Meunier

·        Subtle spicy notes (pepper, liquorice), thanks to the 14% Pinot Noir, combined with citrus fruits (grapefruit, lemon), expressed by the 35% Chardonnay

Palate :

·        A balanced and round attack, at the same time rich and mineral, obtained by appropriate malolactic fermentation and ageing the bottles sur lattes for 3 years before disgorgement

·        Revealing the red and citrus fruits already perceived at the nose, but also kirsch, in a deeply delicious complexity, expressed by the multitude of cru

·        Lengthy persistence on the palate

With this Brut Rosé, Richard Dailly, Chef de Cave of the Champagne House of De Castelnau, presents lavishly blended traditional Champagne, which highlights his savoir-faire.

Drink as an aperitif for moments in good company or with dessert with a strawberry crumble or red fruit charlotte.
