Champagne Agrapart et Fils Terroirs - Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(around 24 Euros per bottle)

Situated in Avize since the 19th century, the Champagne House of Agrapart et Fils passionately cultivates 10 hectares of vineyard, consisting of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir, with 8 hectares classified as Grand Cru, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs.
A simple and well-conceived look, the name is charming. The back label is full of information about the lengthy period between bottling and disgorgement (60 days minimum), essential for this Champagne to develop fully.

Appearance :

·        Pale gold with green glints
·        Fine perlage
·        Persistent bead of bubbles
·        Bright

Nose :

  • Sophisticated, alluring and elegant at the nose
  • Elusive, ever swaying between two aromatic spectrums:
    • Sometimes classic, revealed by the very mature Chardonnay, exclusive vine of the Cuvée, obtained from the Grand Cru of the  Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Oger and Oiry), with notes of candied citrus fruits, white flowers, walnut and hazelnut, almost iodate
    • Sometimes complex and generous, with scents of honey and beeswax, the aroma of spiced bread and cinnamon, together with a hint of fresh butter and brioche, expressed by the vinification and ageing in oak barrels of 25% of the base wine obtained from the 2006 harvest
Palate :

·        A precise, alluring and marked mineral attack, the result of an intentionally low dosage, with 5g/l of sugar added at disgorgement and an expression of the chalky soils, quickly evolving towards a generous roundness, obtained with lengthy ageing sur lattes of the bottles (3 years)
·        The palate reveals fantastic complexity, dense, earthy, expressed by the very old vines from which the grapes are obtained (20 to 40 years), and vinification of the base wine with native yeasts, a guarantee of the respect given to the terroir of origin.
·        Acidulous finish, with gentle woody notes and delicious bitterness
·        Exceptional length on the palate

With this Cuvée Terroirs Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, a blend of 50% of the wines from 2006 and the remaining 50% from wines obtained in 2007, Pascal Agrapart signs his name to great Champagne with strong personality, without contrivances, a source of intense delight. A reward for true wine grower talent, based on hard work and respect for living soils. This is exemplary Champagne from his range essentially produced from parcelled vinification, the epitome of the vineyard of this wine estate.

Drink as an aperitif, or why not, during a meal to accompany fish, poultry or even sushi.
