Champagne Moutard Père et Fils – Vieilles Vignes – Cépage Arbane 2006

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(approx. 98 Euros per bottle)
Tasting Evening of a selection of great Champagne cuvées
Mythical Champagne

Wine growers of Buxeuil since 1642, in the heart of the Côte des Bar, the Champagne House of Moutard Père et Fils passionately cultivates 22 hectares of vineyards and produces a range of superb quality master Champagnes, following the traditional method.

Cuvée created in 1992. Original bottle. Very neat presentation.

Appearance :

·        Gold

·        Extremely fine perlage

·        Elegant and persistent bead

·        Beautiful clarity, crystal clear

Nose :

·       Very original, taking you into a special universe, rich and voluptuous, a unique expression of Arbane, an age-old champenois vine and sole varietal of this cuvée

·       At first nose it is caressing, with notes of honey, caramel, marzipan, almond and toasted bread, the result of the lengthy yeast autolysis of the prise de mousse during ageing sur lattes, before disgorgement

·       Then, the nose reveals aromas of flowers (rose, lilac, acacia), apple and pear compote, fresh citrus fruits (lemon and grapefruit), plum, dried apricot and raisin, but also mango, together with elegant woody notes obtained by vinification and ageing the base wines in barrels

Palate :

·       Attack with impressive density, probably the expression of the age-old vines planted in 1952 from which the grapes are harvested when fully ripe

·       The palate then reveals perfect balance in its pure minerality, distinct character of the noble clayey-calcareous terroir of Kimmeridgian origin in the village of Polisy in the Côte des Bar, and sensual range, at the same time structured and fondant-like, obtained by a carefully measured dosage (10g/L of sugar is added at disgorgement)

·       Gentle effervescence

·       Delicate woody, smoky and spicy notes

·       Fabulous length on the palate

With this Cuvée Vieilles Vignes – Cépage Arbane 2006, François Moutard, its producer, and Philippe Narcy, Consultant Oenologist of the Champagne House of Moutard Père et Fils, present a rare and reserved Champagne, producing only 3,525 bottles. A true Champagne pearl, memory of a forgotten tradition, sole pure cuvée of this varietal, of which there is less than 2 hectares registered, that delivers unforgettable emotions.

Drink alone, as an aperitif, so as not to miss that magic moment, or during gourmet meals, with a prawn cocktail and smoked salmon.
