Champagne Michel Gonet – Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Millésime 2002

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(approx. 25 Euros per bottle)

Located in Avize, the Champagne House of Michel Gonet cultivates a vineyard of 40 hectares, and sells around 150,000 bottles per year, following the traditional method.

Well-designed, elegant and festive look. Beautiful bottle reminiscent of the centenary of the Champagne Riots of 1911.

Appearance :

·        Pale gold

·        Bright and crystal clear

·        Fine perlage

·        Elegant and persistent bead

Nose :

·        Elegant and charming, with a complexity that instantly allures the taster

·        Fanciful variation of citrus fruit aromas (lemon, grapefruit), a beautiful expression of the Chardonnay, the sole varietal of this cuvée, obtained from the noble terroir classified Grand Cru of Oger and Mesnil sur Oger, and enchanting nuances of butter, brioche and pastries obtained by patient ageing sur lattes (9 years)

·        The nose then reveals notes of mango, mint, verbena, but also hazelnut, almond and lightly roasted peanut

Palate :

  • Fresh and mineral attack, thanks to the careful selection of the Cuvée, first run wine obtained from the grape pressing, enhanced by a decidedly low dosage, with 6g/L of sugar added at disgorgement
  • Caressing and creamy effervescence
  • Revealing the citrus fruits already perceived at the nose
  • Gentle finish, rich and ample, deliciously bitter
  • Very good length on the palate

With this Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Millésime 2002, Sophie Signolle, the producer, presents beautiful Champagne that expresses all the potential of the great 2002 vintage.

Drink as an aperitif, or why not during a meal, with marinated salmon steak sprinkled with sesame seeds.
