Champagne Roger Manceaux– Cuvée Héritage 2005

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015

(approximately 44 euros a bottle)

Wine grower at Rilly-la-Montagne, in the Montagne de Reims, the Champagne Roger Manceaux relies on its vineyard of 12 hectares, planted with the three grape varieties of Champagne and carefully farmed within an vigilant sustainable approach, to craft and market approximately 90,000 bottles of Champagnes of character every year.

Sober and luxurious presentation for this cuvée launched in October 2013, in tribute to René Manceaux who passed away in 1955, grandfather of the current wine grower, the founder of the brand and cooper.

Vsual aspect:

·        White gold colour.

·        Numerous and fine bubbles.

·        Refined bead of bubbles.

Nose:

·        Intense and captivating.

·        Scents of chrystallised red fruits, thanks to the Pinot Noir (60%) selected in old vines of Mailly-Champagne (Grand Cru).

·        Scents of apple and pear compote, citrus, white flowers, almond and chestnut, slightly salty, signatures of the Chardonnay (40%) harvested in a 75-year-old plot, at Taissy (Premier Cru).

·        Accomplished maturity obtained thanks to 7 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before disgorgement, with notes of roasted coffee, honey and Viennese pastries, with a subtle woody side, result of the vinification and élevage during 10 months on lees of yeast of the base wines, in Burgundy oak barrel.

Palate:

·        Pure and dense first taste, sublimated by an amazing tension, result of the meticulous selection of the juices (Coeur de cuvee) during the pressing of the grapes, the judicious blocking of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines and the adjusted dosage with only 5g/L of added sugar during the disgorgement.

·        Warm and caressing finish, sustained by the discreet woody side and the delicate spices.

·        Great length on the palate.

With this cuvée Héritage 2005, Patrick Manceaux, its producer, offers us a remarkable Champagne, mix of enologic talent and wonderful terroirs.

To taste during the meal, to match with a venison leg with boletus, for example.
