Champagne Penet-Chardonnet – Les Fervins, Verzy grand cru Millésime 2009 – Extra Brut

Settled in Verzy since 5 generations on a 6-hectare domain in the Grand Cru of Verzy and Verzenay, the house Penet is attached to the revelation of its terroirs. Approximately 50,000 bottles of high-end Champagne, very lightly measured (little or no sugar added at disgorgement) are developed and marketed every year.

 

Numbered bottle (0226) with generous curves. Sober and luxurious packaging. Very informative back label with the key dates of the elaboration.

 

Visual Aspect: 

 

·        Dense gold.

·        Very fine bubbles.

·        Refined bead of bubbles after the service.

 

Nose :

 

·        Unforgettable universe, heady aromatic hide-and-seek, alternating sensual heat and moving freshness, ad infinitum.

·        Aromas of crystallized red berries (strawberry, raspberry, cherry), thanks to the majority of Pinot Noir (70%).

·        Nuances of almond, hazelnut, apple and pear, delicately iodized and mentholated, expressions of the Chardonnay (30%).

 

Palate:

 

·        Lively first taste, thanks to the blocking of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines and to the very low dosage (less than 6 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement), mineral, marked with the unique origin of the grapes: the Grand Cru terroir of Fervins at Verzy (southeast exposure, chalk soil and 15% slope).

·        The palate then reveals a rare, warm presence, allowed by the harvest at optimal maturity, and translation of the élevage of the base on the lees, in small tanks.

·        Refreshing and spicy finish.

·        Impressive length.

 

With this cuvee Les Fervins Verzy Grand Cru Millésime 2009 – Extra Brut Confidential (5,200 bottles), Alexandre Penet, wine grower and oenologist, offers us the first cuvée of a new exclusive collection, obtained thanks to by-plot wine making, as a complement to the traditional blend Champagnes.

 

To enjoy during a gastronomic meals, with a langoustine roasted in spices, carrots and citrus, for example.
