Champagne Boizel – Grand Vintage 2004

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015

(approximately 43 euros a bottle)

Decidedly family-owned, the Champagne Boizel, created in 1834 and now chaired by Evelyne Roques-Boizel, has integrated the Boizel-Chanoine-Champagne group in 1994. 500,000 bottles of high-quality Champagnes are developed yearly at Epernay, of which half are exported export.

Original and luxurious presentation.

Visual aspect:

·        Golden and gleaming.

·        Particularly fine bubbles.

·        Refined bead of bubbles.

Nose:

·        Intense and cheering.

·        Successful maturity, thanks to the patient ageing on laths of the bottles (8 years), with warm scents of caramel, walnut and cocoa, delicately toasted.

·        Beautiful shades of apple, pear and lemon, citrus and chrystallised figs, with a hint of mint, signatures of the 50% of Chardonnay chosen in the best terroirs of the Côte des Blancs (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chouilly and Vertus).

·        Later, the Pinot Noir (40% from Mailly-Champagne and Bisseuil) and the Pinot Meunier (10% harvested at Cumières), mingling imperceptibly with the bouquet, delicious surprises on notes of chrystallised red fruits.

Palate:

·        It expresses straightaway a rare minerality, underlined by the adjusted dosage, with only 6 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement, which accompanies us throughout the tasting, strengthened by the selection of the first juices (cuvée), purer, during the pressing.

·        Then the palate is exceptional, warm and broad, still balanced, with an unctuous sparkling.

·        Delicious flavours of cherry in brandy, barely spicy (pepper and cinamon).

·        Remarkable length on the palate.

With this Grand Vintage 2004, Christophe Roques-Boizel, the cellar master of the house Boizel managed to take advantage of the exceptional heatlh of the grapes, to patiently await their optimum maturity, and offer us an unforgettable interpretation of the year 2004.

To taste during a festive meal, to match with paillote of veal with grapes, for example.
