Champagne Petitjean-Pienne - Millésime 2008 - Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2018
(around 22 euros per bottle)

Neat presentation.

Aspect:

Pale yellow.

Refined bubbles.

Fine bead of foam, persistent.

Nose:

Sensual and touching harmony.

The Chardonnay, exclusive varietal of the cuvée, harvested by hand at perfect ripeness in 2008 in the Grands Crus of Cramant, Avize and Chouilly, gently establishes itself with fragrances of apple, pear, citrus fruits, almond and hazelnut, and then of apricot and grape.

Later, the maturity of the Champagne is unveiled, result of 8 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before riddling and disgorgement, with generous aromas of honey and cocoa driven by an iodized and mentholated breath.

Palate:

Lively opening, obtained by the selection of the first juices (cuvée), purer, during the soft pressing of the grapes and by the perfect control of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines.

The mouth is revealed round and warm, definitely thanks to the ageing of the base wines on fine lees for 8 months in vats, supported by the touching minerality.

Deliciously acidulous finish, barely spicy, highlighted by an adjusted dosage with only 5 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement.

Very persistent on the palate.

For this Millésime 2008 - Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, Denis Petitjean was able to reveal with talent all the elegance of the Chardonnay of noble origins, cultivated on its best chalky soil.

To taste from aperitif to meal, with a duck Caesar salad, for example.

Created in 1981 by Denis Petitjean, now joined by his daughter Marie, 6th generation of wine grower, the Champagne House Petitjean-Pienne has been perpetuating with love the champenois traditions. A vineyard of 4 hectares, mainly planted with Chardonnay in the Grands Crus of Cramant, Avize and Chouilly in the Côte des Blancs, cultivated with the real desire to reduce the environmental footprint, and an inspired œnology, with careful vinifications in small volumes, give birth each year to around 25,000 bottles of highly expressive Champagnes.
