Champagne Mailly Grand Cru - Brut Réserve

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2020
(around 32 euros per bottle)

Elegant and luxurious bottle.

Aspect:

Golden, brilliant.

Delicate bubbles.

Fine bead of bubbles.

Nose:

Endless and sensual aromatic harmony.

The minority of Chardonnay (25%), immediately establishes itself with subtle fragrances of citrus fruits, apple, pear and white flowers, supported by an iodized and mentholated breath.

Later, the majority of Pinot Noir (75%) reveals its generous touches of red and black fruits, deliciously spicy (pepper, cinnamon and liquorice).

Palate:

Joyful tension at the opening, obtained by the rigorous selection of the first juices (cuvée) during the soft pressing of the grapes, driven by the vibrant minerality of the chalk of the Grand Cru terroir of Mailly, exclusive origin of the grapes.

The mouth becomes gentleness, ample and generous, coupled with roasted flavours thanks to the radiant maturity, obtained by a long ageing on laths of the bottles.

Balanced finish, punctuated by notes of exotic fruits, outstanding characteristic signs of the fulfilment of the alcoholic fermentation of the base wines at 15 °C.

Remarkable length on the palate.

For this cuvée Brut Réserve, Sébastien Moncuit, cellar master, orchestrates with accuracy the meeting of terroirs and vintages with 30 to 40% of reserve wines from 10 vintages aged in vats and casks, to establish the style of the Champagne house Mailly Grand Cru.

To taste from aperitif to meal, with a hare, salsify and parsnips, for example.

Born in 1929 from the boldness of few wine growers to deal with the difficulties, the Champagne house Mailly Grand Cru now gathers 80 wine growers to cultivate a 75 hectares vineyard exclusively established in the chalk of the Grand Cru of Mailly-Champagne and mainly facing north. The 600 plots of the wine estate, of which the majority are certified High Environmental Value, are vinified separately, in vats or in barrels, to produce each year the 500,000 bottles of highly expressive champagnes which form the ranges of the Champagne house Mailly Grand Cru.
