Champagne Gosset - Grand Millésime 2012 Brut

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2020
(around 57 euros per bottle)

Bottle emblematic of the brand. Elegant ring by way of label.

Aspect:

Gold, brilliant.

Fine and festive bubbles.

Regular bead of foam.

Nose:

Generous and powerful, source of intense emotions, thanks to the long period (6 months) between disgorgement and shipment.

The aromas of citrus fruits, white and yellow fruits, outstanding signatures of the Chardonnay (67%), are gently combined with fragrances of jammy red and black fruits, barely spicy, characteristic signs of the Pinot Noir (33%).

Later, sensual scents of cocoa and roasted coffees are revealed, result of 6 years of ageing of the champagne fed by lees of the prise de mousse yeasts, on laths, at 12°C.

Palate:

Splendid purity, reinforced by the stop of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines and highlighted by the chalky minerality.

The tension gives way to a joyful balance, supported by the 8 g/L of sugar added during the dosage.

Deliciously acidulous finish.

Rare length on the palate.

With this Grand Millésime 2012 Brut, Odilon de Varine, cellar master of the Champagne house Gosset, signs a touching interpretation of the noble terroirs, mostly selected in the Grands Crus, with especially Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Trépail, VillersMarmery, Ambonnay and Cumières for the Chardonnay, and Verzy, Mailly, Ambonnay and Aÿ for the Pinot Noir.

To taste from aperitif to meal, with a pike fillet and yellow wine, for example.

Founded in 1584 by Pierre Gosset, the Champagne house Gosset has been perpetuating the family champenois traditions for 17 generations. The label « Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant » and the nomination as « artisan d’excellence du champagne » come to reward over four centuries of endless quest for exception. Thus, this is around 1 million of rare champagne bottles that are crafted each year, without malolactic fermentation, in its facilities (winery of 26,000 hL room and 1.7 km of cellars) located in the 2 hectares parkland purchased by the house in 2009, in Epernay.
